Couples counseling
Couples counseling includes working with all kinds of traditional and non-traditional relationships. Whether you are in your 20s or 80s, struggling to navigate dating, facing a crisis in your long term relationship, trying to improve your marriage, or constantly avoiding partnerships, there is help for you. Together we will create the solutions that work best for you and your current/future partner(s).
I offer relationship and marriage counseling services in Atlanta and Roswell, Georgia.
What brings people to couples counseling?
Are you tired of on-going power struggles with your partner? You are resentful, but you cannot identify why. Do you feel unheard, misunderstood, or unappreciated? Your husband came out as gay; now what? Meaningful and fulfilling relationships require much, time, effort, and patience to become and remain strong.
Some relationship problems that people seek help include:
-
- Managing different backgrounds
- Coming out later in life
- Separation
- Broken trust
- Nontraditional relationships
- Sexual problems
- Infidelity
- Emotional/physical disconnection
- Poor communication
- Unmet needs
- Toxic relationship
- Conflict
- Lack of compatibility
- Balancing “I-ness” and “We-ness”
- Infertility related relationship issues
Couples counseling helps couples gain insight into their relationship, work through challenges, and create a more meaningful connection. Sometimes clients decide to end their relationships, and the process of separation can be painful. Couples therapy can help them do so in a mutually amicable and respectful way.
FAMILY THERAPY
I provide family therapy for families with adult children. Family therapy includes exploring unique family history and recognizing and addressing complicated family dynamics. Family members are encouraged to express themselves fully and speak honestly about their struggles. Family counseling also helps people learn to acknowledge and understand each other’s experiences and perspectives. It can help find stability, create balance, and open up new conversations.
Issues typically experienced by adult children and their families of origin include:
-
- Old lingering resentments
- Aging parents
- Unrealistic expectations
- Difficulty communicating
- Cultural differences
- Lack of boundaries
- Substance use
- Loss of a family member
